Forest Whitaker is the latest African American celebrity to be photographed with a green bracelet supporting the Diamond Empowerment Fund (D.E.F.), founded by Russell Simmons with the purpose of donating funds from the sale of Simmons Jewelry Company's Green Initiative collection back to Africa for educational programs.
Several entertainers have been photographed at pre-Oscar events sporting Green Initiative Collection diamond jewelry. Simmons Jewelry Company's Green Initiative line will donate 25% of net profits of each piece sold to the DEF, whose mission is to raise money for the development and empowerment of people and communities in Africa where diamonds are a natural resource. The Simmons Jewelry Company Green Initiative collection will be available at select retail outlets at the end of April.

DIAMOND EARRINGS Three of best actress nominees (Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, and Penelope Cruz) wore diamond earrings from Chopard. Jada Pinkett Smith’s $1 million diamond stud earrings were from H. Stern.
DIAMOND RIGHT HAND RINGS Penelope Cruz wore a right hand cocktail ring. Jennifer Hudson wore a brown diamond right hand ring from Fred Leighton. Jada Pinkett Smith's right hand diamond ring was from H. Stern.
PINS Two of the nominees, Leonardo DiCaprio and Djimon Hounsou, of the Blood Diamond movie wore small red lapel pins from Amnesty International.
