Corporate Social Responsibility

by Fran Goldstein www.diamond-key.com keynet@shani.net

Sparkle the Bear at Helzberg joins Graham at Kay Jewelers this holiday season illustrating some of the good things that are happening in our global community – jewelers giving back to their local communities.

Throughout the USA, jewelers have different ways at Christmas to give back to their local communities.
These are two of the examples.
We’ll be featuring more during the next few weeks.
Sparkle the Bear was launched out of Helzberg headquarters in Kansas City Missouri, and Graham the puppy was launched out of Sterling headquarters in Akron Ohio.
Both of the retail jewelry chains have ties to the Israel Diamond Exchange (as suppliers of polished diamonds) proving that corporate social responsibility may start at home, but it has a much wider reach and can certainly benefit both the local and global communities involved with the diamond and jewelry business worldwide.

SPARKLE THE BEAR

Helzberg Diamonds, a leader in fine jewelry and diamonds, has launched the sale of its 2006 limited edition Sparkle the Bear nationwide to generate funds to benefit children who are the victims of catastrophic illness or life-threatening abuse and neglect.
All profits from the sale of Sparkle the Bears will be donated to Jewelers for Children, which supports four child-focused charities. (Jewelers for Children is an organization of industry retailers and manufacturers who work together to raise money to help children in need.)

• The National CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Association
• Make-A-Wish Foundation(R) of America
• St. Jude Children's Research Hospital(R)
• The Elizabeth Glacier Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

Sparkle the Bear wears a soft, red sparkle sweater and holds a trendy, coordinating messenger bag, ideal for presenting holiday jewelry or gifts.
The limited edition design (and an image of the bear) is available during the holiday season for $9.99 at Helzberg Diamonds stores.

GRAHAM – HUGGABLE PLUSH PUPPY

Kay Jewelers will donate profits from holiday plush sales to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, noting that while some holiday gifts sparkle, others help save children's lives.
This season, Kay Jewelers is offering a soft, huggable plush puppy named "Graham" to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
"Graham" is available through December 24 at Kay Jewelers stores nationwide.
Kay Jewelers'' customers can take "Graham" home for just $9.99 with any purchase.
"Graham" is eighth in a series of limited-edition St. Jude plush collectibles exclusive to Kay Jewelers. "Graham" dons winter apparel plus a signature ear tag and gift bag inspired by artwork created by St. Jude patients.
All profits, no less than $4.00 of the purchase price of each holiday plush item, will be donated to St. Jude.
Last year alone, sales of the plush items, along with corporate and employee donations, totaled more than USD$2 million.
Since partnering with St. Jude in 1999, Kay Jewelers has contributed more than $8 million dollars to the hospital.
Kay Jewelers operates more than 800 stores in the United States.
